A strand of natural lapis lazuli rondelle beads, hand knotted on pale blue silk thread. The deep, ultramarine blue is flecked with fine pyrite — small glints of gold scattered through the stone, a signature of genuine lapis.
Lapis lazuli has been mined for thousands of years, most notably from the Sar-e-Sang region of Afghanistan, one of the oldest continuously worked gemstone deposits in the world. It's a metamorphic rock rather than a single mineral, which is part of what gives it that deep, almost midnight-sky blue with its own natural variation from bead to bead.
Details:
- Stone: Natural Lapis Lazuli, rondelle beads
- Length: 18 inches
- Hand knotted on pale blue silk thread
- Sterling silver findings
- Sterling silver clasp
At 18 inches this sits at the collarbone — a classic length on its own, and an easy anchor piece for layering with shorter or longer strands.
Stones are sourced directly from sustainable miners and lapidary artists, and every strand is hand knotted by me, one bead at a time. It's the nature of natural stone and handwork to have slight variation from piece to piece — I see that as the beauty and character of the craft.
