Why I Don't Chase Jewelry Trends
Share
There’s a particular kind of pressure that comes with running a small jewelry brand. You see the trends cycling through — the styles suddenly filling every feed, the pieces everyone seems to be wearing — and somewhere in the back of your mind, a voice asks: Should I be making that?
For me, the answer starts with a different question: Would I still want to make it if it weren’t everywhere right now?
Sometimes something I love happens to be trending. But popularity has never been my reason for making a piece. The inspiration comes from somewhere much more personal.
Trends Change. The Draw of a Stone Doesn’t.
Fashion has a way of making something feel essential one season and easy to forget the next. Keeping up can become an endless cycle of wanting something new.
What draws me to natural stones feels different.
The blue of turquoise, the irregular shape of a keshi pearl, the intricate pattern in fossilized coral — those details don’t become less beautiful when tastes shift. The things that made me stop and look at a stone in the first place are still there long after the trend has passed.
That’s where I want a piece of jewelry to begin: with something worth looking at again and again.
It Starts at the Bench
When I sit down to work, I start with the stone.
It might be the shape of a piece of fossilized coral or the unusual matrix running through a variscite cabochon. I think about what I want to highlight, how the setting will frame it, and how the finished piece will feel when it’s worn.
There’s room for familiar shapes and styles in that process. But the choices come from what feels right for the piece and my own sense of design.
Working this way takes time. It also gives me room to make jewelry with individual character — pieces shaped by the materials in front of me and the decisions I make along the way.

Jewelry You Choose for Yourself
My hope is that when you find a piece at Natural Earth Collective, something about it feels like you.
Maybe it’s a color you’ve always loved. Maybe the pattern reminds you of somewhere you’ve been. Or maybe you simply keep coming back to it, without quite knowing why.
You don’t need to know the name of every stone or the techniques behind a setting to recognize that connection. Part of my job is to share the materials and the work behind each piece, so you can feel good about what you’re choosing.
I want to make jewelry you reach for because you love wearing it — this year, next year, and for years after that.

Nature Keeps Me Inspired
I keep returning to natural materials because there’s always something else to notice: a shift in color, an unexpected marking, a shape I wouldn’t have thought to draw myself.
Those details give me more ideas than I could ever bring to the bench.
So while trends will keep changing, I’ll keep choosing stones that catch my eye and making pieces I believe in. Some may overlap with what’s popular. Others will follow their own direction.
What matters to me is that you’ll still find something to love in them long after the conversation has moved on.
